My 92 Accord has a A/C leak. Instead of paying lots of money to get it fixed, I buy a can of R134a to recharge it once a year. Works great, but I have to do it every year, but easy to do.
It typically works for a week or two, after which you have a decision to make: fix it right, or keep putting refrigerant/sealant in there every couple of weeks until there's so much sealant gunk that the whole system is eff'd up and even the temporary fix-it crap won't work any more.
Thats stuff is made for people who are selling a car that has ac leak down issues. It seals it up long enough for the deal to be made.
Lol. I actually have a freon leak detector. Let a buddy borrow it to check a car he was looking at. That fresh recharge was leaking very nicely. The seller wasn't very happy. But neither was my buddy with the seller.
Worked for me. I bought a 93 LS400 with 240K miles and ac did not work. I found out there was still some freon in it which means no moisture in the system yet. Luckily 93 is when LS400 converted to R134 freon so I bought a kit with a leak sealant. It's been two years and still working very well. If you have a VERY slow leak it's worth a try.
