My thoughts are that this is what's happening in a great many of these "unintended acceleration" cases.

IMHO she got off very lightly in court.
If that'd been some young guy in a beater he'd have lost his licence and been fined $000's.

That sentence was a joke. It wasn't a supermarket door-ding, she basically totaled someone's car and drove off

I don't think the cars were totalled. Does anyone know what kind they were? It's crazy the time she takes after she backs off the cars and then backs up. I guess she was thinking whether or not to leave, which should show indication that she didn't just bolt off in fear. It would have been funny if she backed into that red car too or had she gotten her tires stuck in the other cars windshields.

The blue car looks like an Elantra and the white one looks like a Neon, both from the late 90s/early 00s. Given that the roofs, windshields, A and possibly B pillars, and hoods need to be replaced, NTM any engine/mechanical damage, the repair bill could easily exceed 75% of those car's values (which would be $2-3k?). I'm pretty sure both those cars will be totaled by the ins co.

62 years old and probably high on several "prescribed" medications, most notably high blood pressure, which has a profound effect upon rational thinking.

Too bad they can't throw her doctor in jail as well.

Bit of a leap there. Could it just be that *gasp* she's a terrible driver?

That sentence is a crock. As others have said, she made a conscious decision to flee the scene. $500 is a slap on the wrist to anyone, let alone someone who can afford to drive a newer BMW. And why restrain her from nighttime driving? The accident happened IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!!

On the plus side, this video completely turns around my previous notion that BMW SUVs are powder-puff vehicles with zero off-road ability. Wow, that thing can climb, lol!!

Good thing she wasn't driving a monster truck otherwise the parking lot and the whole neighborhood would be demolished
