I wish the op would give us a bit more in what he is looking to get out of the suv like if he plans on towing or going off-road or is looking for maximum passenger room it's really hard to say which is best I mean if he plans on doing alot of towing and some off-roading maybe a crewcab ford F-150 or chevy tahoe might be a better buy for what he plans to do if it involves lots of towing or hauling lots of people or heavy loads on long trips .. ..
The original poster is a cop and he getting no respect out of a Murano. On the other hand a 4Runner will be well respected amongst his cops colleagues.
For the love of God, stay away from the Murano. A coworker of mine bought one over the winter, already in for strange electrical gremlins. It only holds a charge for a day or two, and it has to get jumped just to get to work. A new battery and alternator did nothing. The latest trip to the dealer and they decided it has some kind of funky draw. Sooooo, theyre about to do an entire electrical system check. Fun! Ive driven one, too, and those doggone CVT transmissions are the most hideous contraption ever. No juice when you want it, too much juice when you dont. Constant hunting and shifting and surging and bucking. UGH And stay even further away from the Rogue.
Id wait for the 2011 Edge, personally. I know you want slightly older models, but I think the next Edge is even more slick than the current iteration. The X-Terra is also a far better choice than the Murano, I actually like those quite a bit. The Murano is just funky. Almost as funky as the stupid Quest.
Thanks for the responses, everyone. And thank you to whoever moved this thread into the General Forums... I haven't been on here very long, and I wasn't aware that there was an Automotive forum.
I've been leaning towards the Murano due to the luxury you get for the money. Someone mentioned the rear seats reclining as a plus... I really like that it only seats 5 with reclining seats because I don't drive many people. One website review said back seat passengers can fully stretch their legs out. I will be using the car mostly for commuting to work and the occasional highway trip. The wife will also use it some. The only offroading it will see is a grassy field (4th of July, etc). I've had a lifted truck for about 7 years now so I got that out of my system.
I hope to purchase a car by the end of summer if I can find a good deal on one and convince the wife. If I can't find a good deal on a Murano, I'll probably go with the 4Runner.
