Any ideas??

We are toying with the idea of getting rid of both of our cars (2002 pt cruisers) and getting one decent car for hubby... a hatchback of some sort, used for hopefully under 3-4k to drive for a couple of years, then getting a new (or used with a warranty) car for me and the kiddos... that way we don't put a ton of miles on the new car, and it's always available for Hubby if the other car breaks down..

Thoughts?

Oh and if anyone has any idea if three car seats will fit in the back of the two door yaris hatchback that'd be great too!

Thanks

(obviously I mean 4k... not 4000k... hahahaha)

I think you will be lucky to get even two car seats in the back.

Probably your best bet is some sort of wagon, if he's handy with fixing mid-90's to late-90's Volvo wagons sell for that.

I thought a PT cruiser was a hatchback/liftback type of car.

Why not just use one of the two much more than the other and get rid of it then or when it nears 150K miles? Limit one car to about 3000 miles a year.

a late model honda civic hatch or mazda 323 would be perfect also a older volvo wagon would work too but the civic would be the best bet and easy to sell or trade after you are done with it.

High mileage Mazda 6? If it only has to last 2 years or so, it could be an option.

I know it's not a hatch, but it doesn't sound like bigger would be a problem.

PT Cruiser is a hatchback. One of ours (Gidget) has been problems from the get go.. new tranny at 70k, etc.. it shakes at stop signs, etc for no reason we (or the mechanic) can find... amongst other weird things.

The other has 113k, which would be the one we would keep I think out of either one because it's been reliable....

The reason we aren't as keen on keeping them is 1. gas mileage is horrible and hubby has to drive a LOT 2. we'd like to get rid of them before they are worth nothing 3. I'm worried about them becoming unreliable and being without a car which hubby has to have.

The reason I say hatchback is hubby has to carry TONS of tools with him each day.. which is also why gas mileage is important because he's already carrying more than normal..

GTO- I was thinking a hatchback civic as well..

Thanks for all the suggestions
