Why did automakers stop putting keyholes on passenger's doors and trunklids? This is pretty annoying as on one of my cars, the only keyhole is on the driver's door. This is a bad engineering idea for multiple reasons:

Keyholes freeze up in the winter sometimes. Having one on the passenger's door doubles the chances you're going to get into your car.

What if your keyless remote breaks, goes missing, or you don't want to carry the doggone thing around? To open the trunk on this car I have to open the driver's door and then push a button for the trunk, which being an electrical part, will likely fail someday.

it's because most people use the keyless entry 100% of the time and when it fails the keyhole is on the driver's door is the back up.

also if the push button that opens your trunk fails they have a yellow handle inside the trunk that can open it manually from the inside. you just have to fold down your rear seats to get to it.

What car are you talking about? Every car I know has a key hole for the trunk and driver's door at least.

My G35 doesn't have a trunk key hole and I'm not 100% sure but I'm thinking the 530i doesn't either.

I just miss the old days, I guess. I don't want keyless, I don't want satnav, I don't want power windows, I want one-finger power steering...Anyways, this trend I brought up started about ten years ago...not sure when Ford quit putting keyholes on passenger's doors when keyless was ordered, but Chrysler started in '03 and GM either in '03 or '04.

My z06 has only ONE keyhole and thats in the trunk and is only for getting in if the batteries died etc. Doesn't even have an ignition hole and I've never used the key in almost 2 years.

hmm you can still get a no frills base model 2wd F150 with rubber floor mats , bench seat, roll up windows and a standard tranny and no power anything but thats about it. most new cars come standard with power windows. door locks and A/C
