I have a Scion Xb. I bought it new for $17K so I would imagine you can get a used one pretty inexpensively. It gets around 25 MPG, has a 4 cylinder engine and has lots of nice features for a small car. The back seats fold completely flat so if you need to transport things there is plenty of space back there. I really like it.

I really couldn't tell you as I don't know much about used cars, but whatever you decide on make sure you buy a Carfax vehicle history report for it. Stay away from any car that has had anything other than a minor fender bender.

there are a lot of good cars that fit the requirements you have laid out. personally i would look for a 2003 or later ford focus or toyota corolla.

The Toyota Corolla is the best selling car in the world. It deserves to be.

Surprisingly, I have a friend with a Cavalier, and he is getting up to high mileage, and has not yet spend one cent on his car, except gas and oil.
