Some that come to mind for me are the 1990-1997 Toyota Celica and the 1992-2000 Honda Prelude. Watch out for ragged out, raced and abused models however.

just put a supercharger on your miata , keep the boost reasonable and your good to go ... I think I've had them all and nothing is as tough , reliable and fun as a miata.

I can say from personal experience that the Porsche Cayman is an EXCELLENT car. Family member has one and it's cost her more to maintain her Acura SUV than maintain the Cayman.

I had an Acura Rally Sport and I LOVED it. Cute, hatchback, very sporty looking, VERY fast, but it got great gas mileage (about 26-30 mpg) and wasn't too expensive to maintain.

The Porsche Cayman is a superb car. However, I think the OP's budget was in the $10k - $12k range which eliminates a lot of good choice.

Even a 2004? Whats' considered "high" miles for a 03/04 G35? Is the Sedan any good?

I've got $10K to pick up a car and I'm weighing an older 2002/4 Infiniti, Acura, BMW vs. a newer 2005/7 corolla or civic.

Or a turbo and it will turn that Miata into a whole new beast with 250+hp ..
How bout a used Tiburon? although it too may need to be boosted if you want fast and furious type performance.
..

Really for the cost of a lot of these cars you could find yourself a nice Fiero with an upgraded motor. So I'd go with that if you can't find a nice T/A.

I've got an 03.5 (ECU change and other changes compared to first release 03's) G35 and a 2007 530i so I'll weight in. The E46 generation BMW 3 series (1998-2005) will have a slightly better interior than the 03-04 G35 (05-06 are the same car with an updated interior, minor exterior changes) but performance wise the G35 will destroy any E46 BMW that isn't wearing an M3 badge. From Acura, the TL isn't worth looking at unless its a 2004 and up model, which are actually pretty nice cars. Not quite as sporty as the G35 and you're stuck with wrong wheel drive but still good on power. I'd personally ignore the Corolla/Civic altogether because they are in a whole different segment and just aren't appealing to me but you can weight your own personal feelings with everything else that I've said.
