I really want a Soul, but the GT Cruiser (the PT Turbo) was a blast to drive. But I wouldn't consider the PT (or HHR, really) to be a box. Mine was damn practical, however, and probably the best all around car I've ever owned (and that's saying something). Useful, versatile, quick enough (with the 5 speed manual, it was over 3 seconds quicker to 60 than the normal automatic equipped versions), practical, comfortable, economical and completely reliable.

The Soul looks to be the best well-rounded of the group; its particular strengths being fun and inexpensive.

I'd probably choose the Cube if I were going to use it as some kind of delivery/errand car to drive around the city. It's also the best looking one IMO.

The Scion is the roomiest, and best highway car of the group, according to most reviews.

The HHR SS is the hot rod of the group. I don't recall if it shares the same suspension as the Cobalt SS, but if it does, then it has some good handling cred as well. I find it particularly awesome that you can get the SS as a panel van. That would make a good canvas for a sick paint job

My vote is for none of the above. A Volvo wagon was boxier than any of these boxes before boxy was "cool".

Ahh, but the Volvo wagon isn't as tall inside, which can make a lot of difference with certain loads. I've had a Volvo wagon, a 240 that was boxier than boxy. And it simply is not as usefully big inside as even the original XB. And definitely not as usefully big inside as my old PT Cruiser was.

I'm not a big fan of any of them, but I think the xB is best of the bunch when it comes to using them the way they were intended.

I also don't think the PT Crusier and HHR really fall into the category either, as they aren't really "boxes" per se.
