There's a planned community called Piney Orchard in Odenton with lots of apartments. It sounds pretty good for you. I have friends who rented there and loved it. I'm guessing about a 20 minute commute for you.

In my opinion, I think Cockeysville/Lutherville-Timonium/Towson is suburban enough and pretty quiet. I live in Towson at Ruxton Towers. The building is older but it's up to date and comfortable enough, reasonable as well. It you want really modern, you can spend a lot more money but as far as schools are concerned, you won't find much to applaud about. I too was looking for modern and contemporary but when I started looking at schools and nearby apartments, reality set in. My kids are in the Riderwood Elementary school district which is a well ranked school with really good test scores.

I'd look at Hanover/Glen Burnie since you're in the area. Very suburban with lots of new townhouses popping up every week. Depending on what you're looking for however, $1200 may be on the low end side. Unfortunately home prices here, while not as bad as NYC/Long Island, still aren't very welcoming to outsiders.

I'm also looking to move from NYC to MD. The reason being a change of course and I will be looking into attending Morgan State. Can someone suggest some areas for me?
In NYC they have low income co ops for sale, is that available in MD also? I want a quiet area, preferably a townhouse but not too far out in the country/suburbs.
