Basically, I was just wondering how much longer it would take me to go from Baltimore to Philadelphia using Rt. 1 as compared to I-95. Google maps is showing that it would only take an additional 15 minutes, but their estimates are somewhat off sometimes. Anyone have experience with this?

It would take longer than an additional 15 I think. I do this sometimes to avoid 95 on holiday weekends. There are a number of lights between Baltimore and Bel Air but it moves, then it moves OK around Bel Air, then it opens up north of Bel Air, but max speed is still about 50 miles per hour as it's just a two-lane country highway. Not many lights between the Conowingo Dam and the PA line, and in PA it becomes an expressway for some time. Once you get into the Brandywine battlefield area there are some more lights.

It's a very pretty drive and you avoid some tolls, so if you've some extra time (certainly more than 15 minutes extra) it's worth a shot.

Yeah I took it a couple times this summer, but not all the way to Philly. The worst part as far as traffic lights are concerned is up to Bel Air. They were also doing some construction recently, such as on the bridge over the dam where only one lane would get by so that might add a little time as well.

But you save up to about $15 round trip on tolls so it's probably worth it just for that.

I've made the trip from Bel air- Media on many an occasion. Generally, that trip would average about 1:20 minutes. Of course add on time to Phil and Balt.
