Is there any possibility they ever put these things on some sort of timer/motion sensor?

I can't tell you how many times I've sat at a light for multiple minutes with not a single car going the opposite direction. And it's rare to catch more than one green light in a row. I know people will say "there's better things they can spend their money on," but it definitely seems like an issue that can get resolved.

On a different but somewhat related note (possibly caused by what I was just talking about), I've noticed it's commonplace for cars to just blatantly go through red lights in the city (not just being a bit late going through yellow lights, but really just starting to go through after the light is clearly red).

Anyone else notice these things?

I know that when I come to a full stop at a stop sign in Canton, I get honked at, and it confuses the other drivers at the intersections.

I just moved to Bmore, and god damn do a lot of drivers run reds. it would be nice to see some improvements, but I'm guessing it's not high on the list in Baltimore.

Speaking of canton, the new light connected to the natty boh building drives me nuts. You finally get the green turn arrow for 5 seconds at Conkling and O Donnell then the new one instantly turns red for another 30.

As long as you slow down before going through a red light it isn't considered running it.
Actually I received a ticket for doing a "California Stop" at a stop sign. There wasn't anyone around, so I didn't come to a complete stop. I think the cop just didn't like my Ron Paul sticker. Seriously.

Perhaps this is part of why Baltimore has some of the highest car insurance rates in the country

That, and smashed windows.

Baltimore does have a lot of folks who insist on sliding through those red lights. I don't drive too often, but when I do, it may be my imagination but the lights seem to last longer here than in other places. Perhaps, people think about that and take the chance. Frankly, I am surprised there are not more accidents here than there are.
