Hi, we are moving to Baltimore from Virginia & my husband will be working at downtown. I am really concerned about the locality as i have 2 kids (one school going). Could someone please help us by suggesting the best place to live in (secure, good schools and easy commute to work).

I have read that Ellicote City (howard county) is good for living and schooling. Your thoughts please.

Could someone please help with apartment names making it easier for us to check it out. Thanks.

Well, Carroll County is nice, Howard County is nice, and parts of Baltimore County are nice. Of those, Howard County will be most expensive for apartments. Baltimore and Carroll County will be about even.
Will he be down by the harbor? On the north side? Willing to take public transportation? Those would all influence the answers you get.

I just bought a home in Parkville, (Baltimore County) for my daughter and her family. The longest she will be living there is until May 31st next year. After that it'll be for rent. It's in a very nice quite neighborhood, and about 15 minutes from downtown (depending on traffic). She's presently living across the street from Patterson Park (Patterson Park Ave) and even though that's a "high dollar" neighborhood, I wouldn't live there for all the tea in China. I suggest that you drive up here and check out the different areas, and make up your mind yourself. I located this home, that I just bought through a friend of mine, who happens to be very familiar with the area. I'm very grateful to him. If you're still looking next year, contact me, and perhaps the house will be available (depending on what she decides to do).

Good luck, and IMHO stay out of the city!

Default Linguistic overkill

I hate to write this message, because I may be accused of flaming. But norhoil, how can you urge someone to stay out of the city? To me, it's as prejudicial and stupid as for me to urge you to stay out of Pennsylvania
I have lived in Baltimore on and off for 40 years. I have also lived in all kinds of places around the world, including Africa and the Soviet Union. I find this city quite livable. I cannot believe that you haven't found anything good about Baltimore. I hope you don't turn sour on Parkville, too, once you get to know what it is all about.
I would urge you to avoid linguistic overkill, particularly if you are not very familiar about the place you write about.

I simply gave my opinion, I also suggested that they come and see for themselves. You could urge me to leave Pa, and I'd take it what it is, a suggestion. If people know what they are looking for, it doesn't take long to see it.

If you're comparing Baltimore to the USSR, I'm more than a bit shocked. You see, I also lived under their system, and was fortunate enough to have escaped. I can see why you say that Baltimore is quite livable, when compared to any city behind the former iron curtain.

I found a lot of things good about Baltimore, but for the past decade or so it's been going downhill.

I hope you don't turn sour on Parkville, too, once you get to know what it is all about.

I LIKE Parkville, and I'm hoping she stays there for a long time. It is a very nice neighborhood, and I noticed a lot of families outside enjoying it.

I would urge you to avoid linguistic overkill

linguistic overkill Please enlighten me on that statement. It's a first for me.
