a shooting happened like 4 blocks from my house.

This weekend brought a slew of shootings but remember, Baltimore's numbers are lower than last years and the lowest in years.

that's good

More needs to be done to clean up the rundown areas, low income housing, and work only areas. They create the problems for the nice areas.

I'm hoping for State Center to get renovated. That should really make that a nice live/work area and connect BH to Mt. Vernon.

Also in BH funding was approved to improve Pedestral Garden Apartments which has a few shady characters. This is close to where the shooting occurred so it needs improving.

If I heard the news correctly only 1 fewer homicide then last year.

We must have been listening to the same news because I heard that too after I wrote this post. Well, it's still and improvement although very, very, very, very, tiny. Being in Baltimore, I'll grasp at any good news!

223 in 2010
238 in 2009

Yes, but this is 2011 and the news reported we were one less than 2010.
