I lived there for about a year from mid 2005 to mid 2006 and absolutely loved it and still miss it to this day. I lived in Remington by Wyman Park and never had any issue with walking around at all times of day and night and always felt real safe.

I understand that there are down right horrible parts of the city but I have always said that I put the best neighborhoods in Baltimore up against any neighborhood in any city in this country. I haven't been down in a couple years but I am going down in a couple weeks and I just hope things haven't changed that much.

That neighborhood is over near John Hopkins University correct?

And yes, it's gotten worse in my humble opinion.

I disagree. Plans are underway for a new development in Remington/Southern Charles Village that will reshape the neighborhoood.

Details Emerge for Charles Village/Remington Development | Baltimore Grows

In terms of better/worse: I have seen lots of homes being rehabbed in the area.

Unfortunately, the article linked is from Nov. 2009. As with many Baltimore developments the "planned" development has still not occurred.

Lower Charles Village redevelopment is happening. Overall, I think the city is in better shape than it was 3 years ago. Still a ways to go, of course.

Been here 3 years now, things look about the same to me as when I arrived (for better or worse). Baltimore isn't terrible, but I would have to disagree that the best neighborhoods here compare favorably to the best neighborhoods of any city in the country.

I've been living in the city (Bolton Hill) for almost 3 years now and it doesn't seem like much has changed. I can't believe it's almost been 3 years, time really has flew by.

Most of the people that live in my neighborhood seem cool. I really like the architecture and city buzz with a neighborhood feel where I live. My neighborhood has activities once in awhile that are nice like next weekend there is a flower sale in the park next to my house. Leaving the city is easy so that's great for me since I don't work in the city. I don't like how close shady areas are to my neighborhood and most good areas of the city.

Baltimore seems to has fared well in the current economic climate and I see that continuing in the future. With the right steps the city could really grow by leaps and bounds.

I think it has gotten better. The murde rate is alot lower. Population hasn't decreased like it had in decades past. Alot of development occured.

Baltimore has way more murders this year so far than it did last year about this time.
