Here is a great commentary on the Baltimore Sun by Stephanie Rawlings-Blake:

Stephanie Rawlings-Blake: In the spirit of Schaefer, city must come together to rebuild - baltimoresun.com

It seems she is determined to make the city better and Baltimore needs to have someone like this as mayor.

Things I would like to happen on top of the projects she mentioned:
  • A plan created to reduce the property tax rate
  • A racetrack added to the proposed slots casino
  • A plan to cleanup the low income housing

Exactly.. with this new opportunity to rebid the slot parlor add a the track and resurrect the Racino idea.. Plus that would make it more unique so that its not in direct competition with Arundel Mills.. If people want to gamble and shop, they will head to Arundel Mills.. If they want to gamble and bet on the ponies.. they will come to Baltimore.. If they want to gamble and get some sun... Ocean City... If they want to gamble and Ski.. Western Maryland.. If they just want to get off the Interstate for a few hours on their way to or from New York and pass the time... Perryville. Maryland has a chance to give each of its Casinos a specific niche... Why not do the Racino.. at Westport or Carroll Industrial Park and make it a world class facility right off of 95

Nice idea, but the slots at Rocky Gap in Allegany County will be an hour away from the ski resort in Garrett County, and that doesn't account for the weather.

Where is the talk about property tax reform? IMO that is what will be her undoing with several new challengers (including Realtors) who will make that their focal point.

I agree. I think the election of Greg Bernstein shows that enough folks here are tired of "more of the same."
