I'm moving to Baltimore on Wednesday and would like to hear people's experiences with high-speed internet providers. I'm eligible for service with Verizon and Comcast. Which would you recommend?

Comcast is better but you will pay more.

Both are pretty equal in my opinion.. Fios seemed a little bit faster for me.

Might as well just go Comcast because there is no Verizon TV in the city.

If FIOS is available to you it is by far the best. Nothing beats a dedicated fiber line to your house. Comcast is nice too but I work in IT and internet speed is crucial to me....FIOS is far superior.

I would recommend CLEAR/SPRINT Wimax. The speeds are decent enough for most people -- I've streamed HD quality Netflix onto my TV through a Clear Hot Spot without a problem. If you can get-by with 5Down and 1Up, then the portability is enough to make it a better alternative to Comcast or Verizon; unless you can drag that cable with you on the road.

I thought you couldn't get fios in baltimore. When I was shopping for a place in baltimore last month and all I heard about was how you couldn't get fios there.

I don't think FIOS is available in the CITY. Baltimore COUNTY, yes.

ok yeah, that's sounds like what they were talking about. In fact a lot of the apt staff said something about them having the hardware installed in the city but not being allowed to provide it yet.

Yes, unfortunately Comcast has a monopoly over Baltimore City. And I can't get satellite television because I rent. Ugh.
