From growing up in Baltimore, I remember Mayors Thomas D'Alesandro, Sr, Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr, and Theodore R. McKeldin. It seems to me that these were pretty good guys, old-time public servants in the best meaning of the term. (I also like Senior's daughter Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi, but I realize that she is controversial. Hey, it's my opinion, and I can like her if I want to!).

My questions are these -- does anyone remember these guys, and were they any good? Is Tommy (Jr.) still living?

Thanks -- HF

Default Confusion?

I hope no one is confusing anything here. The more prominent mayor D'Alesandro was Jr. His son, Tommy the third, also became mayor and is still alive.
I have no idea who Sr. was or did. Anyone know?

It was Tommy, Jr, when he was mayor, who was very instrumental in bringing the St. Louis Browns to Baltimore in 1954.

And I'll always be grateful to Maryland State Senator Joseph Bertorelli, who lived a few doors away from the mayor in Little Italy, for giving me a four-year Maryland state scholarship to Johns Hopkins (1956). Otherwise I may never have gone to college. I lucked out in a case where politicians owed favors.

I am the one who is likely confused. Since I remembered just two of them, I assumed they were Jr and Sr, rather than Jr and III.

Thanks, everyone, for the responses.
