That would be a tough drive from out of state. I would look in Catonsville, Linthicum, Ellicott City, and Eklridge.

a bit more than a 1/2 acre.

On Route 40 just inside the Beltway

Good Point. I think the kids are elementary age though.

I think the OP can find something nice close to his work, without resorting to commuting from Pennsylvania.
Maybe even within bicycling distance to work.

I notice the OP said a place on Edmondson Avenue. Certainly in the old parts of Catonsville, there are nice SFH's on larger lots. It's a good area, but the house are not brand-new. Further out Route 40, there are newer places, but probably well over $1800 per month.

However, if you like the country, look NW to Carroll County or Mt. Airy. Your husband could be 45 minutes from work, and you would see farms around. Relax, you'll find a place you like.

I definitely recommend Carroll County for you. Plenty of space, good schools, farmland. Look into Eldersburg, Sykesville, or Gamber. You'll be fine.
