Which bar scene areas do you think are the best? Why?

Personally, I am a serious extrovert, so I like drinking, dancing and meeting people bars more than grab a seat and sit all night bars. 25-35 crowd I guess.

Also, can anyone suggest any good karaoke bars/nights in town?

Definitely not powerplant.

Fells and Fed Hill is a toss up. I much prefer Fells but it's really a matter of preference. Nice to have the water there if you need to stumble out and collect your thoughts

Only Karaoke I know of is at the Hon Bar in Hampden on Friday, and at Chef Mac's cafe in Lauraville on Wednesdays.

Nevin's in fed hill has Karaoke going every night. Fridays and Saturdays is probably the best mix of people in there.

A few dancing spots in fed hill, more in canton square, many at power plant.

Most people hate power plant, gets kinda "Jersey Shore" down there, also known as a college hangout. But it gets crowds.

Place is a local legend. It's probably the best living hybrid of new and old south Baltimore.

I prefer Canton to any of the choices you suggest. I would agree Powerplant is def. out. Fed Hill is a real young crowd. A lot of 21 y.o. having their first legal drink. If your idea of conversation is "WhooHooo!" and "Oh Yeah!" then fed Hill is for you. Fells Crowd is a little older and mostly serious drinkers. Go there if you want to get hammered and surround youself with other hammerd people. Canton Sq. is a young crowd mostly from the neighborhoods and professionals from Hopkins etc. A lot of fun.

Haha quite funny and I tend to agree though my New Years resolution is to find SOMETHING I like in Federal Hill (besides my friends there). I'm going to give Nevins a shot.

Federal Hill/Locust Point has over 200 bars. Many of them aren't like the neighborhood's rep. And actually places like Stalking Horse, Mad River, and Ryleigh's are some of my favorite places when it's not Friday or Saturday night.

All of bars south of Cross St. that are very laid back. But when I do go out.... the only bar I really can't take is Mad River... to clubby to young

There are plenty of places in Federal Hill where you can go to escape the stereotypical loud and obnoxious scene that the area always gets stamped with.

Here are a few of the places I can think of that I enjoy:

1. The Row House - The crowd here tends to be a bit older (late 20's and early 30's) and the atmosphere is much more relaxed. Like any bar on a weekend, it is crowded and therefore loud, but nowhere near the point of being obnoxious.

2. Don't Know - About a block away from Row House. Good scene on weekends, you can still find a seat at the bar but at the same time the atmosphere is lively.

3. Barflys - New-ish bar on Fort Ave. where Rafters used to be. Great pizza and great beer selection.

4. Sly Fox - I always have a fun time when I go there, although it isn't often.

5. Zeeba Lounge - Hukah bar on Light St near Maria D's. They are also open late so it's a great way to end a night out. I personally love smoking hukah so this is a place I frequent. It is also BYOB, nothing beats a bottle of wine and some hukah. If you go in the earlier hours you will beat the crowd and it's actually very relaxing. Stay away from Arabian Nights, another hukah bar across the street from Zeeba. This place is a joke, it's very ghetto and for some reason the owner thinks hukah and loud techno music with strobe lights go well together. What a nightmare.

The point is, there are tons of places not on Cross St. which offer a nice alternative to the scene you find on Cross. If you go to Cross St you should know what you are getting into. I really can't stand it when people willingly go to a bar strip (like on Cross St!) and then all they do is complain about it. YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR. If you don't know, then don't complain and be ready to roll with whatever comes your way.

It's not hard to find places that meet your criteria. They are there.

Oh no. Sounds like a nightmare. Hookah is supposed to be a chill thing. What are they thinking???
