Mapquest says 32 minutes, about 20 miles. I was using a house on Powder Farm Ct as an example. It backs up to the state park, and is a bit higher than your budget. I honestly don't know about traffic, as I haven't driven it, but I expect not much worse than 50 minutes.

For major entertainment, I expect you would stay in Baltimore. There are the major league sports, the symphony, theaters and concerts. Baltimore can be a nice town for that. Perry Hall is just suburbia.

Yes, but that would be too far for me.

So I am narrowing things down to

Perry Hall, White Marsh, Marriotsville and perhaps sykesville.

And possibly lutherville timonium

Columbia is a great area. I think you are being ridiculous in relying on school rankings based on standardized test scores. Why would you rather live in the middle of nowhere than somewhere like Columbia or Towson?

Since I dont know how the schools are I need to rely in something. I cant rely on word of mouth based on a couple of opinions. Therefore, the rankings are a Unbiased way to look at it. Moreover, rankings can make a difference whether you are accepted or not in a particular college (whether this is fair or not is another discussion).

I agree with you that I would rather not live "in the middle of nowhere".

is Perry Hall in the "middle of nowhere" (no sarcasm intended, I really dont know) ? Can you tell me specifically good elementary, middle and high schools in Columbia area?

I liked Lutherville Timonium (near seminary road) very much. Can someone tell me more about the region?

Not too many nicer areas in the country! Traffic on York Road can be a pain the butt, but if you are on seminary, there is a lot of back roads. You'll be close to the light rail, which will be an easy way to do some things in the City, or take it to work if you'd like. Sometimes homes will be cheaper if they are closer to I83, because of the noise, and harder to re-sell.
