to Baltimore. Where do you live in the city and how are you getting along? How do you like it? Curious as we are about to make the move up ourselves.

I lived in DC for many years -- in the city as well as the suburbs, and I love living here. On the other hand, I didn't like DC much as it never felt like a real city to me. I never knew any of my neighbors well, and there wasn't much of a community/neighborhood vibe.

In the seven years I've lived here, my house was broken into twice. Once when I left the back door unlocked so I could take out the trash -- I saw the guy open the door, and as soon as I yelled, he ran. And the other time, the burglar alarm went off (I wasn't home at the time) and they must have run off as soon as they heard it. That's it. No muggings, shootings, etc.

I live in Pigtown, very diverse in every way, and I own a small cafe here. I have a small child who attends a public city school and we're thrilled with the education he's getting and the progress he's making. I have great neighbors and I've made friends that I'll probably keep for the rest of my life. I feel very blessed to have moved here and found such a great community.

Yes this city has some serious problems, and some days I worry about its future. Overall, though, I can't complain about my experience here.

Wow Carolott, you really hung in there. I commend you for that. We'll have to come by and check out your cafe once we move up. It's also good to hear that your son is having a positive experience in a city public school.

Moved here from DC a few years back. I am very happy with the move. Bought a home in the Butchers Hill-Patterson Park area. Very affordable when compared to DC for sure. No mortgage and an easy commute to DC via rail.
