Nexis, what's your opinion on HSR in the USA and do you think it could be built in the Northeast and utilize the existing rails that Amtrak uses?

The Plans call for using the current NEC , just adding 2 more tracks. The Original NEC from Newark to Baltimore used to have up to 8 tracks. And some areas up to 12 tracks , alot of the Right of way has been preserved so added back tracks shouldn't be that hard. The Amtrak plans call for 5-6 Tracks to run from New York to DC , with Bypasses at Newark with no station , Philly with 2 Stations @ Market East and the Airport , Wilmington with a new station about 0.6 south of the existing one , and Baltimore with 1 Station @ Charles Center , then 6 tracks to DC. DC , Boston , NYC would get Expanded Stations , which are also needed to handle Regional Rail Expansions in New England , NY , NJ , VA and MD. The New Station in DC would be under the Current one and for High Speed Rail only. Freeing up space for MARC and the Virginia Network to Expand , both full build out plans call for statewide systems by 2035 serving about 100,000 each...

The Current NEC will be upgraded and Enhanced to allow for New Intercity Routes like the Northwestern Service , Downstate Delaware line , Lehigh line , Lackawanna line , Keystone Express , Hudson River Express , Knowledge Corridor , Cross New England Express , Concord Corridor , Cape Cod Express and Downeaster Corridor all of these would operate with speeds up to 130mph....and numerous other regional rail lines in throughout each state in the Northeast. The New NEC would have speeds up to 220mph+ , with Averages 180mph+.

Hell at a minimum I wish they would extend the subway up Broadway to the MARC/Amtrak Line and build a station there for the subway and the MARC. That would be a perfect way to funnel people downtown from the NE suburbs.. Right now they have to go to Penn then either take the light rail or one of the circulators downtown.
