Hello everybody,

I am an Italian doctor and I will be moving to Btown for 3 months in November to conduct some research at JHH.

I have located a nice house in close proximity of the Hospital at the corner between Orleans St and Collington ave... literally around 500 m from the entrance.

Considering that I will have a car for going elsewhere and that I'm pretty used to live in the US (lived in New Haven for a long time while studying, even if the crime pattern is a bit different there)... would you guys say that would be a reasonably safe choice to get the room there? Location (proximity) is great since i will be starting very early in the morning and the house seems nice.

I have already been to Btown a couple of times, and I understand that is a city with an attitude.. and if one looks at the stats, well, they are scary, no doubt .

I would like an opinion from you guys.

TY

Emanuele

You'll definitely be in the hood but 3 months in winter for a single guy you should be ok. Just be careful

That's in a pretty crappy area. I'd move closer to the water, near Butcher's hill. You're right on the line where it starts to get bad. I think I know the houses exactly where you're talking about that are being built. It could be fine as long as you're smart about living there. During the day it is perfectly fine to walk around.

it's not that far ...500m is about 1600 ft..just pay attention to your surrounding, don't read your smartphone. Walk and look around

Default Welome

You know the answer already, but let me reassure you: With your previous U.S. experience and visits to Baltimore, you'll be just fine.

Welcome. Enjoy your visit.

"three months in winter" are the operative words.

Orleans and Collington? That's definitely not a good area but as others have said you should be fine since it's only for three months and you're very close to Hopkins Hospital. If you were living in Baltimore for a longer period of time I'd recommend going somewhere else, but as a doctor at Hopkins I'm assuming you'll be working insane hours so proximity to work is probably worth a lot to you.
