We are moving to MD and thinking of settling in Ellicott City. Husband will be working in Germantown and I will be working in Elkton. How is the traffic for both of us. I am guessing I will be going against traffic. We picked Ellicott City to split the distance a little bit and because of the good schools.

I hope you can get a flex-time or work-from home arrangement, as the commute to Elkton is going to be awful. Just from google maps, the distance is 66 miles, and the time is 1 hour, 15 minutes. You have to go through the city and the tunnel, and the alternative over the Key Bridge is not better.

About the only alternative I can suggest is to live in the city, like Federal Hill. Do you have kids yet?

Then Ellicott City is a good choice. However, driving to Elkton is going to be bad, and I'd suggest considering other job options.
