Just went to the block last night had a great time, partied too hard though. Im now living in hangover city. There were all types of people down there lots of women, white and black people. People looked to be generally enjoying themselves. I think they should probably add some gambling to the block, that would definitely spice up Baltimore's night life.

I just don't think it should be the centerpiece of the city. DC has seedy areas and strip clubs too, but they don't have them on Penn Ave. The block should be moved somewhere more marginal.

On the other hand, if they did move the block somewhere more remote and replaced it with something cleaner and more respectable, I think the new block might be more crime ridden than it is.
Actually, back in the 'eighties before the "clean up and gentrify DC" movement was in full swing there was a large red light district right on Capitol Hill. A couple of my buddies were interns for our state representatives in Congress and lived in a hallway on the Hill less than two blocks from strip joints, sex shows, porno theaters, head shops, street girls and loveboat dealers. Those were the days...

I wonder how its survived so long at that location.. in the heart of the City's govmit district? I remember when Obama came to Bmo on his whistle tour to DC and spoke in front of the War Memorial ... I have never seen the Block so clean..DPW must have scrubbed it all night like old timers used to scrub their marble steps.....LOL...I guess the national spotlight will do that to ya

I remember him saying *read with an Obamalike tone*

"We need more small businesses...ahh to create jobs...ahh.. like the owner of Club PussyCat or Hustler who employs young ladies from Dundalk.. and ahh.... put to bed the saying that nothing good comes out of Dundalk but the #10 bus...ahh...which is the bus that she has to take every Saturday to Baltimore Street to shake her money maker for two bucks.. we can do better America...yes we can....... lets give her 10 bucks!!!!!!....TEN BUCKS!!!!.. we can do it!!!!! she deserves it!!!! yes she does........." I liked going to the Block after a baseball game at Memorial Stadium or a night of music at the Marble Bar for a Polock Johnny or a piece of Fast Eddie's chicken.

I like The Block, but wouldn't eat a damn thing over there!!! A friend of mine got food poisoning from one of those late night eateries after a night of good clubbing. The beer prices are effin' and insanely high!! GTFO with that $8 beer mess (do I get a dinner and female companionship with that??!!) Smh..

Now, I like how the Block's establishments are close to each other. If this could be duplicated, and instead of the girlies and goons, we can have a little more sophisticated entertainment outlets and activities..this would be the bomb!!

The best red light district that I've ever been exposed to in the USA was NYC Time Square circa 1977...those were the days of high caliber filth and degradation. LOL!!

Different perspective from someone who just moved from Philly to Baltimore, but I kind of like "The Block" in the sense that there's a certain grittyness to it that adds to the character of the downtown corridor. Center City Philadelphia had some voyeur districts back in the 80's and 90's but these have largely gone the way of extinction due to the rapid gentrification of Center City that started in the late 90's. Some people in Philly lament the loss of these establishments as they added to the whole vibe of the area.
