Hi,

We are a couple with a 3 yrs old kid and we are moving from Europe to Baltimore (I also posted another post regarding where to live) and after doing a lot of research I am finding incredibly hard to understand and calculate how much taxes I will pay which obviously will be of amjor importance to give my final answer to the job proposal.

Does any can let me know how can know the taxes?
Salary should be around 100,000 per year and I will be the only with a salary.

Really appreciate any help or advice

Thanks

START with the HR dept at your employer.
They should be able to get you within a few hundred dollars of correct.

A large variable in getting correct is knowing what PRE tax benefits and other deductions might apply
and which others you might elect or be eligible to use before you get to the NET earnings that tax will apply to...
and ONLY the employer will be able to provide most of this specific data.

There is also the cascade nature of the process beginning with the Federal forms (and rules)
which have to be done before you can start the State forms (and different rules) and so forth.
Yes, it's a major PITA that we all complain about and endure.

If you want to "reinvent the wheel" anyway.... here are the Federal and Maryland forms:

Forms and Schedules for Form 1040
Individual Tax Forms and Instructions

You're asking a difficult question. The U.S. tax code is very complex and a lot depends on your personal situation. Someone can't tell you what your tax rate will be without knowing what deductions and credits you may be eligible for.

I would speak to an accountant or tax professional if your decision to take the job depends on taxes. Definitely don't rely on anecdotal evidence from message boards because one person's situation may be a lot different from yours, plus many Americans don't seem to understand how the tax system actually works!

In any case, I think you'll pay a lot less in income taxes in the U.S. than you would in the Netherlands.

It's big but if you want a rough range, I'd say conservatively 45%, aggressive 30%. Kids and marriage can change that.

Again... there is NO REASON why the prospective employer can't get you close.
Start there.

With some basic assumptions, you can first use the IRS calculator 2013 Withholding Calculator

and then the Maryland calculator here https://interactive.marylandtaxes.co...502for2013.asp
