Decay in pics.

One of the architectural quirks of certain cities on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. is the solo row house.
Standing alone, in some of the worst neighborhoods, these nineteenth century structures were once attached to similar row houses that made up entire city blocks.
Time and major demographic changes have resulted in the decay and demolition of many such blocks.
Occasionally, one house is spared - literally cut off from its neighbors and left to the elements with whatever time it has left.
Still retaining traces of its former glory, the last house standing is often still occupied.

The second to last one looked pretty nice. I also laughed at the one that had two luxury vehicles parked on either side!

What happened fellow posters, cat got your tongue? Seems like no one has anything to say about this. Talk about bad publicity, this photo essay appeared in a London, UK newspaper with worldwide circulation, and a substantial readership here in the US. So Baltimore is now the laughingstock of the world. Of course the cause is the failed housing policies of greedy, thieving, Baltimore City politicians and their partners in crime, "urban planners" (what a joke they are!), which have ruined more neighborhoods than unemployment, drugs and crime combined. And the really sad part is that the crooked politicians spent billions of taxpayer dollars to obtain neighborhoods that look like this.

The article is somewhat unfair, as it does not distinguish between houses which are being lived in, and those that have been abandoned.

The poverty porn trend is not new, and the Daily Mail especially has a thing about Baltimore, probably because The Wire was popular in the UK.

Unfair? What is unfair about the article? Crooked politicians spent billions of your tax dollars to create a city that looks like Armageddon and you call the article unfair. LOL When the media runs a story about a politician doing something wrong, do you call that unfair also?

The article merely shows single houses standing alone that were once part of rows of houses. Whether the houses are lived in or abandoned has nothing to do with the article because either way, lived in or abandoned, the area still looks like a war zone, and one can still the decline of the neighborhoods, which is what the article is all about.

Oh, I see, so Baltimore and its crooked officials can do no wrong. In your skewed view, the fault lies with the newspaper because it has a "thing" (whatever that is) about Baltimore. You remind me of a politician caught by the media with his hand in the cookie jar saying something like "you printed this story because you don't like me". LOL

Beautiful houses? Bit of an exaggeration, no?

All the houses featured were built as working class - lower middle class rowhouses of little architectural merit.

Baltimore's problems aside, there are UK cities that struggle with abandoned rowhouses as well.
