Sweet and not very well advertised, to the tourists anyway. Free, convenient, and running every 10-15 minutes until 12 AM - you sure don't get that in every city.

I just stayed downtown for a few days. I wanted to see a movie that was playing at the Charles theater, but didn't want to pay for a cab (the movie got out at nearly midnight, and wasn't sure when buses stopped running). But randomly called a nearby restaurant (the theater doesn't answer the phone?), and learned about the purple line, and I was happy as a clam. Also, heard it was "not in the best area of the city," but I sure felt 100% safe there.

Enjoyed your city overall. Wish I could bring back some Faidley's with me.

A friend of mine got sneezed and muscousified by a dirty gentleman on one of those buses. He moved out of Baltimore a week after that incident.

Never experienced that and I use them daily.

So you're implying that a statewide gasoline tax pays for the circulators? I'm fine with that. Strong public transportation can only make a city (economically) healthier. Not that I need to preach that to your region, which is surely one of the nation's best, transit-wise.

I didn't imply anything, it is a fact that much of the MD fuel tax funds your "sweet" free ride.

My region of the state doesn't have public transportation except for an intra-County bus which runs mostly from the population centers to the hospital.

Funding for CCC comes from city parking revenue.

I never owned a vehicle and don't have any kids, but do I think that none of my many thousands of dollars in state taxes should goto MD schools and highways? No, that's absurd. Now switch me for you(NPB) and the issue to public transit, and the question is equally absurd.

The thing is, your school taxes stay in your jurisdiction, my gas taxes here give you a free/subsidized ride there.

If the funding comes out of parking revenue then you better let Gov. O'Malley know since your free ride was specifically mentioned by him as benefiting from the increase in the fuel tax.

You also mentioned your taxes going to highways. They don't. The Highway Fund is completely funded by the gas tax. In fact one of the problems is that successive Governors have raided it to balance the General Fund.
