I'm going to a concert in Silver Spring in a few weeks and I was wondering what type of transportation there is coming back to Baltimore at night (around 11)? Most forms of transportation I've seen so far stop at around 9 PM and I need to get back that night but I don't want to leave early. Also is the best way to get there during the day by the MARC train? Thanks in advance.

Leave the concert when it's over. Catch Metro to Union Station and chill-out until 3a; then catch the Northeast Regional to Baltimore, which incidentally is the first stop on that train. I've taken that particular train several times and it's usually the cheapest NER fare.

To get down there yes, you can take the MARC. Do the opposite of what picardlx said - take MARC to Union Station and then Metro to Silver Spring. It does have a MARC station, but that MARC line goes towards West Virginia, so it won't do you any good.

Why should I have to chillout til 3 am in the morning? If the concert is over at 11pm, that entails I wait over 3 hours to get home from Silver Springs which is technically a 45 minute drive from Baltimore??!

Because there is very little (if any) demand for public transportation from Silver Spring to Baltimore in the middle of the night.

I assumed that 'driving' was not an option. If OP has a driver's license and funds, then he/she can rent a car for a day.

But that doesn't matter, they pay for their public transportation. You know, with the gas taxes they don't pay by not having a car and the bridge tolls they don't pay because MARC doesn't go to Ocean City.

How do you know this to be true? There may be a high demand, but not the request has gone over the head of state transportation planners. There is a lot of activity in Silver Springs, MD that Baltimore could certainly take note of.
