There are no apartment buildings in Guilford proper, it's all single family houses with the exception of a handful of semidetached properties on the periphery of the neighborhood. Unless the OP can stump up the rent for a large house in one of Baltimore's most expensive neighborhood, Guilford is out of the question.

Roland Park actually has a number of apartment buildings fronting University Parkway and Roland Avenue not far from Homewood, and a few old converted houses. You do find students living in Roland Park although it's rare and most who say they live in RP actually live just outside the neighborhood, in Tuxedo Park, Evergreen or that strip of Roland Avenue just north of 39th Street.

Washington might be a bit too far out if you do not have a vehicle, so that would be the same with Cheswolde. Guilford is good, but the closer to York Road the dicier it gets; but I am mostly familiar with the area of Guilford closer to Loyola. Roland Park is pricey and where the "old money" is at if I remember correctly. Never heard of students living there, though.

The thing about Baltimore is that no matter where you are, the 'hood is always right around the corner.

If those HUGE mansions are classified as SFHs that would be funny.

Actually, this site, city-data, the one we're on, provides much more detailed and current info.

There's more to Guilford than huge houses, but yes, they are all single family houses.

Northern Baltimore is basically safe.

But as somebody else posted -- Northern Baltimore still isn't that far away from bad neighborhoods. For instance, when you are in Roland Park/Mt. Washington, it's fine....but go across Northern Parkway towards Pimlico and you are in no man's land in less than 5 minutes. Go on Cold Spring Lane in the other direction and you are in no man's land again. The bad neighborhoods are much closer to the good neighborhoods in Baltimore. It's just a fact of life here.

northern Baltimore has some good neighborhoods that border some sketchy areas. The premier communities in that region are Roland Park, Homeland, Guildford, & Mt. Washington. Their are other neighborhoods but they aren't as popular as the ones listed. Becareful because crime in this town can change by the block. Also zip codes 21210, 21209, & 21212 have some of the most expensive and prestigious realestate in Baltimore proper.

Most of those neighborhoods are white and wealthy. Mount Washington has a large middle/upper middle class/professional African American population, and Cheswolde is home to many Orthodox Jews.

The neighborhoods you list are considered safe, but they're also very residential, and not really student neighborhoods. (Kewsick might have some students.) I think you'd feel isolated as a JHU student living in those areas. I'd look at Hampden, Charles Village, Oakenshawe, and other areas right around the University.
