Hi,

Is it safe to live in Hampden? My husband and I are looking at houses to buy in the Baltimore area and so far we liked Hampden a lot. Just wanted to get different opinions from people who have lived there or know about the place.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Katy

Yes, of course. But it is city living, so you shouldn't walk around plastered at 2 AM with no sense of where you are. I wouldn't leave my door unlocked. But otherwise it's safe, in that you are unlikely to come across any really nasty crime unless you are very unlucky. Muggings do happen from time to time.

I know people who rent and own in Hampden and love it.

I'll suggest renting ANYWHERE until you've lived in the area long enough
to have more direct personal experience to base a decision on.

As regards Hampden in particular... I'll suggest that anyone limit themselves to renting there.

I say go for it. Once the Rotunda is completed, the area will continue to be a great community.

The Rotunda | Baltimore's Premier Mixed-Use Community in Hampden

Inventory in Hampden and the surrounding neighborhoods isn't what is used to be....expect to pay asking price. Even where I live in Remington....stock is maybe only 8 - 10 houses on the market. Used to be more than 5 times as many not too long ago.
