Check it!

Recently, I was in a conversation with a few older friends of mine who've been in Baltimore most of their existence. They were discussing the proverbial Baltimore stuff about, where you went to high school, Ravens football, and old places and institutions that have long since disappeared from the city. But, I've come to notice that these conversations all start to sound the same in reference to how Baltimore used to be in lieu of what the city is developing to become. Don't get me wrong! I'm all for preserving history, but not at the expense of being too nostalgic, without the lack of focus on the future of progress (if you want to label it such?). These conversations can become bitter, stating the obvious frustrations that some citizenry feel Baltimore is loosing its natural history, cultural and social importance.

Speaking about the same old things over and over again without proper context, just emotional foreplay. Not engaging in new ideas and perspectives that can move their consciousness forward, but relishing on past histories of who did what, where, how, and to whom?!! What are you thoughts?

Sometimes, having these discussions is like being physically locked into an early John Water's film that you can't get out of! Lmao.

OK, "Walters" is an obvious typo, but you mean you DON'T want to be endlessly experiencing Lady Divine's Cavalcade of Perversion?

There's no real movement or change. Baltimore is the same it's always been. A staunchly blue-collar, Northeastern town, mostly industrial but with Johns Hopkins (healthcare) and Legg-Mason (finance) as small white-collar niches. Friendly, down-to-earth, a bit weird, always extremely authentic, with a long history and culture.

This city will progress when LEADERSHIP
sets the precedence. Some look nostalgic
back at the William Donald Schaefer admini-
stration as the last time Baltimore City made
significant strides. He had a chance to continue
the progress with succeeding mayor Kurt Schmoke
but because his right hand man Clarence DuBurns
was not elected, he took it out on the city by
stifling funding for projects. Baltimore has not recovered
from Schaefer's petty behavior and leadership after
Kurt Schmoke that has been elected have been opportunistic.
There is a reason audits are regarded like the plague
by City Hall. They know a LOT of money will come up missing
and the reckoning will collapse the city government.

Sorry, I don't see any real progress going on, embraceable or otherwise.
Baltimore seems still stuck where it has been for as long as I've lived here.

Some people will describe nearly any change as "progress".
Wiser heads know better.

Actual progress and the real change inherent to it... can be scary.

Don't know your age but from my perspective, Baltimore is not even recognizable to what I experienced as a kid in the 60s/70s. It's a different place entirely. Yeah, there are remmants of the old Baltimore culture but they are dying out quickly. Not that it's a bad thing - change is inevitible and I was never a bit fan of Charm City compared to many other towns. That said, I think many people who live in the city now would be horrified of the culture and slow pace of the city of the past. The city is improving, with that you give up some of the old character and "characters", e.g., I sure don't miss Willie Don but I do still miss Cafe Tatoo. Just the way things go, cha cha changes...

There is no more blue collar. THe people who think they are blue collar are just poor. There is no industry in Baltimore for the blue collar worker. Baltimore needs to embrace fully it's industry as a Healthcare and Finance center.
I know Baltimore loves it's poverty, drug addiction, and murder, but attracting a tax paying citizenship to the city will enable more funds to spend on Narcan for the police so we can keep our dope fiends alive for our personal entertainment.
