Baltimore police investigating 5 shooting injuries - ABC2News.com

To paraphrase councilman Kraft: This has nothing to do with the city of Baltimore.

Giardello is on the phone with Pembleton and Bayliss. Kellerman and Munch are also on the way.

Baltimore is far from a perfect place, but March ended with just 7 homicides, the fewest in a month in 44 years. Still unacceptable, but nice progress.

Probably because it's been the coldest in years. It'll rebound and make-up for the March dip when it gets warmer.

That sounds logical, except it was also extremely cold in January, when there were 4 times as many murders.

If I want to kill you .. I am going to do so.. period.. whether its cold outside or hot.. The City has to get the bad guys off the street...permenantly if their habitual offenders. We would be more successful at creating a "pre crimes" unit like in the movie Minority Report with Tom Cruise than guessing if the murder rate will be higher or lower in a given month. The underlying factors of the murder rate are clear..#1 Gang/Drugs; #2 Domestic Violence/Crimes of Passion; #3 Robberies (which is often related to #1)..#2 is hard to deal with...so the focus should be on # 1 and #3.. I am not an attorney or prosecutor... but there has got to be a better way to prosecute some of these folks.. It gets tiring reading that someone getting arrested for murder and learning that their "rap sheets" are a mile long with similiar crimes that even Stevie Wonder could see would eventually lead either them killing someone or being killed... I know there arent any easy answers....Offering people an alternative ( even though its easy to say.. DONT KILL ANYBODY OR SELL DRUGS) is important so that they have better choice.. but that is an entire conversation that is still playing out in the pages of these treads and the society vs government role debate....

If Heroin, murder, and junkies were marketable commodities, Baltimore would be recession proof.
