Hi! We are a family of 5 with 3 young children 8 and under, we are relocating from ohio and was looking for direction on what are some good areas within 30 min drive to the city. We have a budget of around 1500/mo. Would also like to know best places to look to deal with private landlords as about 5 years ago we were evicted due to money issues.

Are schools important to you? If so, start with greatschools.org The school districts that surround Baltimore are Howard County, Anne Arundel County, and Baltimore County. Be warned, the districts are HUGE so you'll need to look on a map to see if they are within your 30 minute commute time. That budget is going to be tough in this area though. Assuming you have relatively decent credit, you should be able to get someone to rent to you. Especially if your eviction years ago was based on a unforesee circumstance. Welcome; I'm a Buckeye from OH too!

It also matters 30 minutes from where you mean in the city. Is it the center of downtown or a boundary edge of the city? It can be 20 minutes just to drive from one boundary of the city to the center.

With the $1500 budget it will be tough, but you might try Catonsville and Glen Burnie.

I'm sorry it's a boundary. Honestly just an hour outside of the city we'd be ok. I don't remember where exactly but I know that bel air was an option but that and glen burnie are the only two places I know of. He knows a lot about the area I'm just trying to get a jump start on looking.

If the job is at the Hopkins Bayview campus at 4940 Eastern Ave Baltimore, MD, then I suggest looking Northeast to White Marsh or Bel Air, which are good.

If it is the main JHU hospital at 1800 Orleans Street, then Glen Burnie is OK as well as Bel Air or White Marsh. You also might look at Halethorpe, Linthicum or Elkridge.
