I am considering moving to the city of Baltimore. I currently live in Ellicott City, and although I have enjoyed living here I am a single 25 yr. old male and I am looking for an area with more action. Ideally I would like to find an area where I can rent a 1-BR apartment in a artsy/hipster neighborhood. I would like to have the ability to walk to coffee shops/bars/grocery store, etc... I also love breweries/microbrews. However, I would like the area to not look run-down, and also want the ability to run outside while feeling safe and having pretty sights. What neighborhoods/areas would you suggest?

Start with looking at Hampden, Remington, Charles Village, Mount Vernon, and parts of Station North.

Stella Maris.

It has all of what you want and is just a few minutes drive to Towson Town Center.

I think Mount Vernon and Hampden fit your needs well as far as being "hipster." They both have a lot of interesting breweries, bars, and restaurants and have a lot of culture.

As far as aesthetically pleasing/running outside, I'd also look in Canton. There is a Safeway grocery store there that is walkable from most places in the neighborhood and it's also very nice to look at (blocks of nice row houses and right on the water) and run outside. Not to mention Patterson Park borders it to the north, which is a great place to go running.

Canton also has a lot of nice restaurants and breweries, but (at least to me) it isn't as hipster or artsy as Mount Vernon and Hampden. They also aren't all concentrated in one place (except O'Donnell Square, I guess) like they are in Mount Vernon, so you kind of have to do more exploring.
