Adopted Nationals fan here, although my Royals are in the hunt, so they take priority.

I'm hoping KC will somehow play Baltimore and win and then go on to play DC in the World Series.

We can all hope and dream right?

I don't know about that - I have many acquaintances that share interest in baseball and we discuss it often. Baltimore is a great baseball town and I talk ball with folks from other places too.

The concentration of professional baseball and football teams is also much lower in the south compared to the Northeast, which is why college sports often predominate in that region.

The best thing for baseball as a pro sport is to have the small market teams enjoy some success. This helps increase the appeal to rural folks on the peripheries of the market who may not watch just to watch, but are excited to get behind a winner. (Yes, that is sorta me, but can you blame me the way MLB is structured?)

Pro football figured this out a while ago. The hard salary cap and softer schedules for last year's losers encourage parity, which gives fans of every (well most) teams a bit of hope every year that this could be their season.

Professional baseball in the Northeast consists of Boston and New York. How boring is that?

Northeast college football consists of teams like Amherst, UMass, Bowdoin, etc. Who is interested in them?

The O's won't get to the WS. Showalter has never been there. He over manages, always playing by the book. He's never played professional baseball and it shows. (Earl was the exception.) I'll root for them, there're my hometown team, but I wouldn't make book on them.

Congratulations Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees!

I'll take Derek Jeter over Cal "Hillbilly" Ripken any day.
