New FBI statistics: Baltimore No. 5 in murder rate - Baltimore Sun

New FBI statistics: Baltimore No. 5 in murder rate

By Justin Fenton, The Baltimore Sun contact the reporter

Baltimore had the fifth-highest murder rate in the country last year among cities with 100,000 or more people and saw an increase in property crime, statistics released by the FBI on Monday show. The city also had the nation's seventh-highest violent crime rate.
The Uniform Crime Report for 2013 is based on data submitted by states to the FBI, which does not audit the data and cautions against ranking cities or making other comparisons.

In 2013, Baltimore saw a rise in both murders, swelling its murder rate to 37.4 per 100,000 people, and non-fatal shootings. The city reported 235 murders at the end of the year, but reported 233 to the FBI.
The Baltimore Police Department did not respond to questions about the disparity or about the statistics overall.
The data show that Baltimore also saw a 5.6 percent increase in reported property crime, and a 3.5 percent increase in robberies. Rapes declined more than 5 percent, and aggravated assaults declined 4 percent, fueling a slight decrease in the overall violent crime total (about 0.7 percent).

Abandonment, despair, drugs, poverty, and a city government that does NOTHING for those that really need it. I am surprised Baltimore functions as well as it does with half the city in disarray. VOTE these people out.

One of the news channels reported the new FBI statistics like he was reporting the average height of males in the Mid Atlantic region; No real concern for those who still live in Baltimore. 235 murders in Baltimore last year, no big deal. That's to be expected. I am tired of the violence in Baltimore as well as the lack of concern the residents have about their own children. Yesterday I had a group of children coming from school walk directly in front of an on coming car, mine. The traffic was moving and I had to slam on my brakes to stop from hitting them. No brains, no forethought, no education no common sense. WTF ?. This is not the first time. I have sent the school an email about these kids challenging traffic in the past. I of course got no reply. They meander across the street ever...so...slowly while looking you straight in the face. With 3 times the national average teen birth rate, I can't help but wonder what, if anything, parents are teaching these kids. The Health Department is practically begging the Baltimore City Government to taking the lead in changing this, but no such luck, nothing ! All the precursors of future crime are there.
