None of those stats really get past the 1800s. I'm sure during that time the city was in much livable condition than today. What are the stats for today????

The best data point I see there is the great Baltimore fire. Sad thing is they rebuilt the ****.

It's kinda of ironic that Baltimore is a city of first, but seemingly today, the city is last in many categories of life-sustaining social dynamics.

Detroit in the 70's was revered as one of the best cities. They had a lot of great "sayings" about Detroit. Detroit had one of the best standards of livings in the nation (at one point). People flocked from NY, Boston and elsewhere to come and live in Detroit. That doesn't mean it's the best today.

Detroit was already declining sharply in the 1970s.

Go back fifty years earlier and there may be some truth in your comment.
