Alonso may be contender for Chicago superintendent post - baltimoresun.com

Thoughts on this? Anyone have kids in BCPS?

From the tone of this article and the interview he is certainly leaving the door WIDE open.

He has been the best thing for the city schools in a long time, insisting on responsibility and improvement. Chicago knows that.

Alonso did a LOT to build moment for improvement efforts and I hope they continue on into the future.

Just for the record, BCPS is the county school system. The city is BCPSS (note the extra "s" for "system").

It seems like a lot of these top administrators like to quit while they're ahead, rather than deal with the inevitable ups and downs they will face while seeing things through. In a way I can understand that strategy, but I hope this is not the case with Alonso.

The politics in Chicago are more racially charged than in Baltimore. He should expect a grilling from the Black political establishment there still bristling over Rahm's win.

Baloney! Politics in Chicago is a well-oiled machine.

The black political bosses realized they picked the wrong candidate a few months after they all (except one) stepped back and let Carol Moseley Braun run. She is a complete dufus and came in fourth with 9% of the vote.

Alonso's problem is his arrogance, which won't sit well with native Chicagoans. But it's Emanuel's call.

I pray he doesn't leave but the money and challenge might be too much to pull him away.

Someone told me today, he recently signed and renewed a four-year contract. True or hearsay?
