Their responsibility is to make a profit for their shareholders, and that's what their decision will be based on.

And I, too, hope they rebuild the pharmacy, and that the community benefits as a result.

CVS is a business designed to make profit. They are not going to build a CVS in the middle of antarctica just because it makes the penguins feel good!!! Yep, I couldn't agree more.

All you have to do is first reopen the Penn-North store.")

As for leaving it as a burned-out eyesore, that's already been tried. Lots of stores that were destroyed during the 1968 riots are still nothing but burned-out shells. Sadly, this hasn't seemed to have imparted any lessons to the denizens of those neighborhoods.
The truth is that drug stores have a highly profitable market niche in the inner city. They seem to replaced the 5 & 10's (Woolworths for example) in combination with a (presumably) highly profitable pharmacy business.

Interestingly, CVS is going to be the anchor tenant in the new Hopkins related building at 33rd and St. Paul. Since, they seem to be expanding their footprint in Baltimore, it might be a good idea not to dis the city as a whole. Moral outrage is one thing, making money is another. In this case, for the company as a whole, reopening the store might be the cautious thing to do.

Like you really care or give a damn about the community??!! Man, please spare us with your patronizing concern for poor Black Baltimoreans. CVS's are nothing but legalized pharmaceutical drug dealers that work for these major corporate cartels who invade the Black community like a plague $$$. They are dispensaries' of death keeping people constantly sick, fiending for their synthetic medications; making them sicker by the day. Peddling highly toxic combination of chemicals compounds you wouldn't feed to your dog to get healthy.

Personally, I am aware that particular chain is committed to the inner city and probably will ignore the petition.
The land/location is simply too economically valuable to leave it vacant.
A good business in a location like that can easily revenue 100-250k per day.

If Baltimore (or any city) is going to revive you simply have to displace the hoodrats by making it unaffordable for them to live there. That's the reality of the situation. Doesn't look like it's going to happen though because it isn't considered "PC".

If I heard correctly, CVS is planning to rebuild/reopen the North Ave store and that also the head of CVS is empathetic to the city's plight, made a donation to the clean up effort. Seems like CVS wants to be a good community me,ber/corporate citizen. Plus, I'm sure they were insured adn you know the city wants them here, so there will be incentives of some sort, even if it is only sailing thru the redtape that plagues getting permits in the city as usual. How could this not be anything but a good thing for all?

Moderator cut: Orphaned comment

That CVS Pharmacy on Penn and North Ave. treated their customers like horse manure. I've been in there a few times and saw how customers were treated. They got what they deserved!

Incentive my a$$! It's about money! The elders/olders want the CVS there because they don't have any other places for legalized narcotics. Good thing for all who want to say induced, sick and nearly dying.
