I wish the feds would stop fighting decriminalization/legalization. We should be helping people, not hurting them - the War on Drugs hurts them. We lock them up over drugs, but don't offer much in the form mental health care or job training, both things that would impact the addiction rates and violence rates too.

What kind of world do we want to live in?

Well, don't Black lives matter? Don't we lock "them" up for murder? Don't drugs enslave and kill Black people slowly through addiction? There's already a PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM in Bmore that spends a sh.tload of money PER STUDENT to help "THEM" right from the start and at a young age. What the hell are you talking about there being no help?

They don't want it. They want to run in the streets, selling drugs instead of a proper education....starting with "you were" and not, "you was"....and ridicule those who actually wants to learn. Ask any successful Blacks who made it out of the ghetto. Not sure what else can be done unless you want to give them all free college degrees and certifications.

No it wouldn't. It would just create more addicts to commit more crime, despite drugs being much cheaper. There still exist illegal pot sales in states that has legalized it as it's still easier for druggies to buy illegally. You will create more health problems by the exponential increase in addicts. And it takes a hell of a lot longer and more resources spent, to rehab an addict, compared to creating one with just ONE try of heroine or crack.

You can't just magically create jobs when there's no demand. You want to be like Obama and probably Bmore.....who spend $250,000 in Taxpayer's money to create some dumb, govt' job that pays $50,000 and then brags about it?

And what can former drug addicts, drug dealers, and assassins do? Maybe the Druglords have skills and smarts, but the rest are dumb as rocks. They ain't going to community college and get a degree in Accounting.

And it's just a BS fantasy. The drug trade is apart of Bmore's economy. Without illegal drugs, no crazy Koreans nor Arabs would risk their lives to set up some sh.t grocery store there to make under-the-table cash money. It will really turn into Mad Max III there. If you want to help them, then bring in WHITE people to fix Bmore. This is just the damn truth right there, and I'm not even White....not even a little. Corruption and incompetence is much worse than just corruption alone.

Spoken like a classic angry suburban outsider. You aren't looking clearly at the situation in its totality. As such, you bring very little to the conversation on solutions. Have a nice day.

You have no argument. Crying isn't an argument.

OK, here's your argument - Portugal decriminalized drugs what ~15 years ago? And it is a success - addiction, overdose deaths and crime are all down. You can google it and it will come up from many, many sources. Here's one from Forbes, just in case something like WaPo etc is too liberal for you:
Ten Years After Decriminalization, Drug Abuse Down by Half in Portugal - Forbes

from the linked article:

Drug warriors often contend that drug use would skyrocket if we were to legalize or decriminalize drugs in the United States. Fortunately, we have a real-world example of the actual effects of ending the violent, expensive War on Drugs and replacing it with a system of treatment for problem users and addicts.
Ten years ago, Portugal decriminalized all drugs. One decade after this unprecedented experiment, drug abuse is down by half:

Maybe its a regional thing.. I grew up in the south in a midsize southern city.. The police precints were never opened 24hrs a day.. Headquarters, yes.. but not a precint. That said.. if is customary for the precints to be open in Baltimore City 24/7 and they were not and not closed for a good reason.. That is a problem.. If they were supposed to be open and were closed for budget reasons or whatever and there was no notice to the public (surrounding neighborhoods).. that is a problem as well. I guess the era of the "officer friendly" and walking into a precint and the desk Sgt. sitting high up behind a dias are over in most places....

Personally, I would rather have Officers on the Street and if a Precint must be staffed.. Why not do it with a cadet or an auxillary officer? If someone runs in there for help.. there is not much any officer can do other than keep that person safe and call for a unit/back up or whatever assistance the person may be asking for.. That may be enough in the case of a robbery or rape.. The Northern District is my precint and it resembles a suburban police station and there are no residential areas in close proximity... So, I cant imagine someone running in there to ask for help.. though it too is along a bike trail.....The Western and NWestern and I am sure a few others are in the middle of residential areas thus totally different enviroments all together and should be staffed 24/7.

The Bike Trails are an interesting amenity of sorts.. I dont know why the City doesnt have Park Rangers that patrol them on a regular basis.. I know that technically the parks are CLOSED at dusk.. which may have been why the Officer gave such a "flip" response though still unwarranted. It may be useful to have these "bike cops" ride the trails.. but especially right before dawn and dusk to make one last "sweep" before they "open" or "close" ..to see if there is any illegal activity on them since they are technically closed before dawn and after dusk. It would also allow those folks racing the darkness the opportunity to get off of the trails a little more safely....though some may argue.. why even ride them near the "crime time" hours...which is what the officer said..
