As someone who loves history, I enjoyed looking at these photos. However, I also felt a bit sad since Baltimore is a crime ridden, poverty stricken dump nowadays.

Wow, there were A LOT of industries here in Baltimore!

Baltimore did seem like it was beautiful in several different neighborhoods. I heard that areas such as Fells Point looked a mess back then, but probably not as bad as the slums look nowadays.

Film projectors Unknown / Baltimore Sun
Today’s moviegoers would be surprised by a shaky image on the big screen, a random particle of hair or dust or a notice to change the film reel, but all of these things were common during the days of film projectors. Before improvements in technology, these projectors powered cinemas across the country, a marvel at the time. In this 1959 photo, Johnny Unitas and John Farrell thread film of the Colts championship game.
I feel old. When I was in elementary school, I was selected to be the one who operated the film projector during my class' film viewings. If I were to find such a device today, I would probably still remember how to work it.

I wonder how many places and things we take for granted here in Baltimore today will be nothing but distant memories 50 years from now?

I don't think Baltimore was ever a beautiful city -- gritty, rather; but it was at least busy and interesting.
