Why? I thought everything in Baltimore was 3rd world crap? Foget the fact that Poly has consistently been the number high school in the state.

Western High School in the city is also rated one of the top in the state. I believe they even have county students there paying tuition. Isn't it an all-girl school?

IND does a good job providing a straightforward Catholic education. It doesn't have the college placement record of the better Catholic high schools, but for families looking for an uncomplicated school offering the basic Catholic girls' education, IND serves this niche very well.

City, Poly, and Western are regarded as the top three public high schools in the city. Western is not as strong as it used to be, and is a notch below City and Poly. Only politics prevents Western from being closed outright and merged with either City or Poly. It's no better than most suburban public high schools, and its SAT scores are mediocre.

The three schools are selective. Poly has a very good math/science track, and City College has an impressive IB program. However, the average SAT scores at City and Poly is still lower than one would expect, and neither of them have the SAT scores comparable to any good public high school in Baltimore or Howard Counties. This may have to do with that both Poly and City offer specialized tracks and classes for the genuinely bright students, and the rest of the study body, while in the top league by Baltimore City standards, is only average by any decent suburban public high school standards. The college placement record reflects this: a small handful will go to prestigious universities, while the rest don't, and certainly can't compare with the sheer number of Ivy League bound students coming out of the private schools. Both Poly and City are still resting on the laurels from their heydays of the 1920s-1960s.

You won't be hurt going to any of these schools, but at the same time they aren't quite as good as some of their champions would like to make out.
