It's not practical to do that so Baltimore is not a smart choice.

Most people move out if they can afford to.

Exactly. It's not like the kids are being dropped off and allowed to roam the city.

What a bunch of drama and political BS at the expense of the students who would be perfectly safe visiting the freaking science museum.

What's not safe is the kids of idiot parents that don't know where their kids are at 10pm.

However, some of the comments here are depressing. I visit Baltimore all the time. While much of the city is in fact a freaking war zone of lawless ghetto culture, I really don't have a problem in areas like Fells Point, Inner Harbor, Federal Hill etc. You still need to be city smart, but those areas are fine.

Baltimore is absolutely no place for innocent kids, including the inner harbor.
A couple of adult chaperones doesn't cut it against swarms of criminals.

Any school system in Maryland that visits Baltimore on a field trip should be investigated or sued.

I live by JHU, I haven't had a single problem. Grow a pair and be smart of your surroundings, there's no reason to go into the ghetto areas and they are easily avoidable as mostly everything around the harbor and straight north up to hampden and Roland park is fine. Yes stuff has gone down in the harbor and fed hill, **** happens in Times Square and Central Park, stop living in a bubble.

Man this article has ruffled many feathers locally among the politicos.. who disparage the decision either directly or indirectly. The Newsweek title bar is certainly the culprit by stating it as they did as opposed to simply saying "local rural school district decides its children are not safe in violent Baltimore". I am sure that Carroll County officials didn't state the race of the children in their public statement.

I've lived in NY and been to several 3rd world countries, if you're afraid of Baltimore don't go.

Why deprive children of quality
museums and other educational
venues because of fear? These places
are visited by other Maryland counties
without any problems. I think CC school
officials made the decision with other
motives in mind.
