These are points I've been hearing on the street.

It seems as if the Mayor is targeting predominately
African-American events.

*Probably so, but we don't have any evidence of this; just mere speculation and conspiracy theories. But, I will say there is a move to de-Blackerize, and breakdown these predominately African American cities for various reason. Developers, Mayor, private business want these neighborhoods and don't want, or need, the people who occupy them.

BTW: The people spoke and the MLK Parade is going
to be held. The Mayor changed her mind after hearing
from angry citizens.

Does the Caribbean festival still occur at Clifton Park? I recall we discussed before why was it moved from Druid Hill since many of the residents and restaurants that support that festival are in NW Baltimore. Maybe it too will return to the Druid Hill once renovations are completed.

As for as the City and its budgets.. it seems that if they are not able to find major sponsors for these types of events that may be the driving force. Events like Artscape have no shortage of supporters and visitors from inside and outside of Baltimore. AFRAM was being marketed as a Regional event.. but I am not sure if it ever achieved that level of interest/support which may have left the city to shoulder most of the burden.. Then when choices become.. more police, youth program or heavily subsidized festivals.. it becomes easy to see which one takes the hit...

The mayor should take a trip down to see kevin plank and see if he is willing to support the arts in Baltimore...maybe he already does.. is so. would he increase his support?
