Some of the kind of pro-Baltimore hype rarely seen around these parts:

The Baltimore Business Journal will host a forum focused on the two-part series "Stop Apologizing, Baltimore" on Aug. 28 on the second floor of 36 S. Charles St. Coffee, doughnuts and networking will kick off at 8 a.m. A discussion led by BBJ's editors and reporters will follow. The talk will include prominent local leaders and business people and a chance for audience members to ask questions and share their ideas.

Early but Coffee & Doughnuts?

I didn't go, but I listened to it online: https://www.bizjournals.com/baltimor...s-discuss.html I thought the discussion was pretty mediocre.

Thank you! I didn't want to, but had to create an account just to read the articles. Very interesting panel discussion. I still have so many inquiries on the effectiveness on these discussions. What do they actually produce?

Since these kinds of discussions allow people to express their feelings and maybe express the most bare-bones beginnings of policy ideas, they can't produce very much of value. I was in a long meeting at work today where people did a lot of opinionating but kept circling back to actual strategies and policy solutions. That is what is needed. Unfortunately, you are really talking about a weekend long meeting that has expert moderating if you are going to get anything out of trying to deal with such a large and diffuse set of issues.

Its interesting. A good friend of mine who lives in Baltimore recently talked to me about how his neighborhood has gotten nicer, the neighborhood where he works has gotten nicer, etc. but he says Baltimore is completely going down the tubes and that he needs to get out now. He also said that the city deserves to lose the Orioles and Ravens because the city doesn't have any people anymore. This is a great example of overall anti-hype about the city overwhelming his positive personal experiences of living and working in the city. For him the having to deal with people giving him a hard time for living in the city is more important than his actual personal enjoyment of living in the city.

If I cared what people think, I would have moved out years ago. But I don't, so I didn't. Unfortunately, almost everybody cares what other people think about their choices.
