Hello everyone,

My two teenage children are planning to attend a 2-day concert at Pimlico racetrack the weekend of 8/10 and 8/11. I have heard that Pimlico may not be in the safest part of the city. Do my wife and I have good reason to be concerned about their safety at Pimlico late into the evening on 8/10, and driving from there to a hotel in downtown Baltimore afterwards? I would appreciate any feedback you care to share. Thank you very much.

Not the best place to be at night. I advise using Uber/Lyft or cabs instead of driving themselves.

Thanks. Is it difficult to get an Uber at a place that is so crowded?

A concert a Pimlico shouldn't raise any safety concerns. I would definitely take an Uber, though, as parking is gonna be a mess.

Arrange for some other organized (shuttle?) transportation to/from the track site.

Moonrise Festivals have occurred
since 2014 at PRT without any
problems from the PRT neighborhood.
The track is located down the street
from BPD training facilities.
Lots of cops and track security.

Most legal issues are drug busts
of people attending the festival.
I have relatives who live near the
track and they say synthesizers
played at the festival can be heard
a mile away.

You might want to check out the shuttles:

Moonrise happens every year. The crowd is not dispersed on the park heights side (which is the neighborhood everyone is scared of) they are let out on the side facing Mount Washington, which is not a problem. Also the area will be crawling with cops.

Your kids are more likely to face danger due to a bad reaction to the many drugs that will be passed around inside the festival. It’s a pill poppers paradise. Getting robbed is the least of your worries at Moonrise.

They have shuttles plus there will be many Ubers available.

Regarding the general Pimlico area, a good rule of thumb is this: north of Northern Parkway is OK; south of Northern Parkway is not. It's really quite amazing, how stark the dividing line is. (Pimlico itself is located on the south side of Northern Parkway, so if one is going to do any wandering away from the race course, cross the street first.)

The shuttle sounds like a good idea, at least potentially. Though, it would make a difference where in downtown Baltimore the hotel is located, in relation to the drop-off area. Some parts of downtown are not advisable to be walking around, late at night.
