Maybe they should defund the consent decree.

Well . . . the single weekend of 31 May 2020 saw 110 casualties in Chicago: 25 killed, 85 wounded. None of these incidents involved police hostilities. I can only imagine what Baltimore City would look like without the police. The people who would suffer the most would be the decent black people who try to live in such a squalid city.

Baltimore City Police haven't been doing a damn thing since the riots, so we already see what defunded policing looks like here.

What exactly does that mean? Seems to be different things to different people. But any thought of having LESS officers on the streets, or none at all if that can be believed, is crazy. IMO one of the main the difference between the crime rates in DC and Baltimore is the number of officers on the streets. You see them everywhere in DC, not nearly as many in Baltimore.

People who want the police eliminated altogether and the money invested in social programs are out of their mind. When someone is breaking into your house at 2 in the morning is the solution to call the rec center and hope a social worker gets there in 2 minutes to confront the intruder before he takes your daughter?

Of course not.

But based on some objective data (link below) it's pretty clear that B'more has a LOT more cops
than most places. Along with Chicago one of few with over 40 uniformed per 10,000 or so citizens...
so there clearly is some room to rearrange the deck chairs. That or maybe a real Hampsterdam.

This is what I just don't understand. But let's defund the police? They want to defund NYPD by 1,000,000. It was said on the news that equates to about 5000 officers. NYPD has roughly between 35-38,000 in ranks. They only hire about 7-800 cadets per year. You cancel out 5000, that's like a generation of no new cops. Meanwhile, these men and women are going to retire in droves. Their hands are already tied. Deblasio let free reign occur, homeless everywhere, crazy people wandering the streets of Manhattan. The west side of Manhattan is being taken over by crazies and junkies. This is all in the last two years.

It includes $22.4 million in cuts to the Baltimore Police Department:
* With a $6.7 million cut to police overtime in five different departments, not including patrol.
* And a cut in funding to the police Marine and Mounted units totaling $1.8 million.

Not a word in any of these reports adding additional training and funding for officers to change the culture of bad tactics.

That's a whole other can of worms and it's above their paygrade in any case.
