figure on $1500-2000 a month for a decent place to live. You'll most likely be the victim of crime if you spend less than $1500 a month.

Cost of train/subway commutes

Why would you want to add 4 hours to your day like this? I suggest you research the traffic and you will see what I mean. Those hours are stressful too so keep that in mind.

They can't stop building, and there is zero shortage of people coming here. I wish this wasn't true either. 2% growth isn't a lot, so move to a huge metro?

You could always move to North Dakota.......

The OP's rental wishes are a pipe dream.
Not really. I suggest to the OP to check Craigslist, you may be surprised at what you can find.

I live in Charles Village, a short walk to Johns Hopkins University so a very good area. I feel very safe here, sometimes going on long walks after dark. I'm paying $500.00 per month inc. utilities for my own apartment. It's small but big enough for my king size bed and other basics. Yes, I have my own bathroom and a walk in closet too!

I was thinking individual. You made out because $500 is very difficult to pull off. That area looks deceiving, parts of it are very nice but......

I forgot it's the "I am a millennial and want to live in one city and commute to another insanity thread"
