I think the cop overreacted but then again why was
the "anti-violence activist" still on the street? He had
a long rap sheet. Sure, he was a street artist but if
Pablo Picasso was a serial killer on the side would
he be remembered as an artist or a serial killer?

A sad, unfortunate circumstance for literally everyone involved. A traumatized woman, a dead man in the midst of a mental break, and a cop that is going to have to live with these events in his head for the rest of his life. It doesn't matter that it was justified or that we call him a hero. No cop I know is a robot.

True, it looks like a mess now to shoot someone 17x. 2-4x was enough to kill him before any ambulance could get there in time (and then the ride to the hospital).

Cop should've stopped after #6 or #7, when he was literally rolling away from the woman.

Just b/c he was still twitching and had no idea nor control to drop that knife (probably), keeping on to shoot him 9-10 more times just makes it look horrible. Again, he was already gonna die after shots 2-4 of +P+ hollow points that Cops usually carry.

The mental health system failed Tyree Moorehead.
Were he getting the mental health treatment he
so obviously needed, it is my belief that he would
still be alive today.

I think they're trained to shoot until it's clear the attacker is dead and/or they run out of ammo. When something like this comes up, they don't have time to think about anything. They just have to react and they just react the way they've been trained.

Let me guess, they should have shot the knife out of his hand, amirite?

Calm down and learn to read. I implied no such thing. I actually train with quite a few Cops at an MMA gym for nearly 20 years now. Cops in the 'hood, SWAT, etc.

It was excessive fear that caused him to unload so many rounds like that.

Pretty true, but also it was excessive fear + adrenaline dump. Again, the dude was gonna die already after taking the 3rd shot. I know that they shoot to incapacitate due to the knife, but everything after the 6th shot when he was rolling away from the woman, is just a bad look (is all I'm saying). The cure for this IMO, is that Cops need to train more with full contact fighting => MMA (esp. grappling/BJJ) w/weapons.

The Cops I train with from SE DC, have been shot at, partners hit, partner killed, etc.; will probably not unload like this b/c they've had a ton of street fighting & trained fighting. The experience of controlled violence at an MMA gym, translates into being a lot calmer in such situations.
